On 27 September 2013, Google announced a major change in its algorithm to suit the new age search queries. The change in algorithm has come for the first time since 2001, when it introduced a new algorithm, though there were enhancements and updates such as Caffeine Updates, Penguin and Panda since 2010. The emphasis of the new algorithm is on providing the search results that match with the meaning of the query. Now the emphasis is in giving importance to the whole sentence typed for the search purpose or its meaning and not just few words.
Due to mobile users, queries were getting more complicated as the visitors typed the keywords casually to find out specific search results. Hence, old search results were no longer sufficient to satisfy the new age queries. While Google had made some changes in its ways of producing search results nearly four years back, still more changes were required. The changes that occurred in the form of Panda and Penguin updates were still part of the old algorithm. These updates were not whole new algorithm that Google was planning to launch for more semantic search results.
Google’s Hummingbird has been launched as a brand new search algorithm. However, the new engine will be using some parts of the Panda and Penguin old updates. Now with Hummingbird, Google aims to satisfy the visitors with more accurate search results that match with the intention of the queries. Clearly, this will give the users better experience in searching for the results. Hummingbird is the direct result of the new age searches using mobile devices. Mobile users make casual queries and need more detailed search results.
An impact of Google Hummingbird will be that the visitors will be treated with organic seo results. They will have more precise search displays to their queries and only such sites having relevant content will find place in the top results. Poor quality content will be eliminated from the search result top pages.
Another impact of the new algorithm will be visible on search engine optimization methods. Most of the seo professionals in the present scenario put keywords at many places in content cleverly. They use the keywords in h1 tag and heading tag. Now, however, the search results will rank the sites that have the content written in conversation approach for the viewers.
Due to the new algorithm, some of the big brands have gained on the search results. But these changes have not been dominant and they are more having an impact on search queries involving long tail keywords.
We can say that Google Hummingbird algorithm is a major change in the way search results are produced in response to the longer queries. Since the results will now be more precise, the people will feel more confident in making the queries. The new algorithm will surely raise the standards of the search. In the coming days, the users are going to experience different search results which will satisfy their queries in a better and refined way.
